POSITION:                Anticipated Learning Support Teacher

Position Summary:

Carlisle Area School District is seeking a dedicated and collaborative High School Learning Support Special Education Teacher to join our team. This position provides specially designed instruction and individualized support to students with disabilities while helping them build the academic skills, confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills needed for success in high school and beyond.The Learning Support Teacher works closely with general education teachers, families, school counselors, related service providers, administrators, and other special education staff to develop and implement meaningful, individualized programming for students.

We are looking for an educator who is student-centered, flexible, collaborative, organized, and committed to helping students recognize their strengths and reach their potential. The ideal candidate understands that effective learning support is more than helping students complete assignments—it is about identifying barriers to learning, providing meaningful specially designed instruction, and helping students become increasingly independent and confident learners.

Experience with secondary learning support, co-teaching, evidence-based interventions, progress monitoring, executive functioning supports, and transition planning is preferred but not required. Most importantly, we are looking for a teacher who believes in the potential of every student, builds strong relationships with students and families, and wants to be part of a collaborative team committed to high-quality special education programming within the Carlisle Area School District.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide specially designed instruction and targeted interventions based on students’ individual needs and IEP goals.
• Differentiate instruction and adapt materials, assignments, and assessments to support student access to the general education curriculum.
• Serve as case manager for assigned students and develop, implement, and monitor legally compliant IEPs.
• Monitor student progress, maintain required documentation, and complete IEP progress reports within established timelines.
• Collaborate with general education teachers and other school staff to implement accommodations, modifications, specially designed instruction, and other student supports.
• Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, reevaluation meetings, manifestation determination reviews, and other meetings related to student programming.
• Communicate and collaborate with families, teachers, related service providers, counselors, administrators, and other members of the educational team.
• Support students in developing academic skills, organization, executive functioning, self-advocacy, and independence.
• Develop and implement secondary transition programming to help students prepare for post-secondary education/training, employment, and independent living, when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student records and fulfill other professional responsibilities in accordance with district procedures and state and federal requirements.

 

Requirements

• Pennsylvania Special Education certification or eligibility/willingness to obtain appropriate certification through an approved alternative or emergency certification pathway.
• Knowledge of or willingness to develop expertise in IEP development, specially designed instruction, progress monitoring, and inclusive practices.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Commitment to maintaining high expectations for students while providing individualized support to promote success and independence.
• Required Pennsylvania clearances and employment documentation.

 

Required Clearances:

Act 24 Arrest/Conviction Certification; Act 34 Criminal History Clearance; Act 151 Child Abuse History Clearance; Act 114 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance; Act 168 Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release; and required district safety and compliance training.
